At VIP Cleaning, we believe a clean home is more than a service – it’s a foundation for wellbeing, dignity, and peace of mind.
That’s why we are incredibly proud to be working alongside Furnishing Futures, a charity transforming empty social housing into healing homes for women and children who have escaped domestic abuse.
Through this collaboration, we donate our professional cleaning services to ensure each property is not only furnished beautifully, but also thoroughly cleaned, hygienic, and ready to become a true sanctuary.
But to understand why this matters so deeply, we need to look at the bigger picture.
The Reality Too Many Women and Children Face
Domestic abuse is not rare. It is not isolated. And it is not someone else’s problem.

In England and Wales alone:
- Around 2.2–2.3 million women aged 16+ experience domestic abuse every single year.
- Over a lifetime, around 1 in 3 women – roughly 7 to 7.5 million – will experience domestic abuse.
- Public campaigns often say 1 in 4 women – but some data suggests the number may be even higher.
And children are affected on a heartbreaking scale:
- An estimated 827,000 children in one year were living in households where adult partner abuse occurred in England and Wales.
- Across the UK, government analysis suggests at least 1.5 million children under 18 may be affected, and this is likely an underestimation.
These numbers represent mothers. Daughters. Sons. Neighbours. Classmates.
And behind every statistic is a family forced to leave everything behind in search of safety.
From Fear to an Empty Flat
When a woman makes the brave decision to leave an abusive environment, she often does so with very little.
No furniture.
No belongings.
Sometimes no plan beyond “we need to get out”.
Many are placed in empty social housing – bare walls, cold floors, no beds, no curtains, no sense of comfort.
Less than 2% of social housing comes furnished.
For someone recovering from trauma, stepping into an empty, echoing property can feel overwhelming. The silence can be heavy. The space can feel stark rather than safe.
That’s where Furnishing Futures creates transformation – turning those empty properties into thoughtfully designed homes that promote healing, dignity, and stability.
And that’s where we step in.
Why a Clean, Sterile, Prepared Home Changes Everything
At first glance, cleaning may seem like a small detail compared to furniture and decor. But we see firsthand how powerful it truly is.
A Clean Space Signals Safety
After chaos and fear, hygiene and order create calm.
Sparkling kitchens. Sanitised bathrooms. Fresh-smelling rooms.
It sends a quiet but powerful message:
You are safe here.

For children especially, physical cleanliness reduces stress and illness risk – and creates an environment where sleep, routine, and learning can begin again.
Cleanliness Restores Dignity
Domestic abuse often strips people of control and self-worth.
Walking into a home that has been professionally cleaned – where every surface has been cared for – communicates respect. It says:
You matter. Your comfort matters. Your health matters.
That feeling of dignity can be the first building block in rebuilding confidence.
A Fresh Start Should Feel Fresh
Starting again is emotionally exhausting. Survivors are navigating legal processes, financial stress, parenting challenges, and trauma recovery.
The last thing they should have to worry about is scrubbing floors or disinfecting cupboards.
By donating our services, we help remove one more burden. We prepare the space so families can focus on healing – not cleaning.
These Numbers Are Minimums – The Need Is Greater
It’s important to recognise something else: domestic abuse is significantly under-reported.
The statistics we see are likely minimum estimates. The true number of women and children affected across the UK is higher.
Which means the need for safe, dignified, welcoming homes is even greater.
More Than Cleaning – It’s About Hope
Every time we support a Furnishing Futures project, we remind ourselves that we are not just cleaning properties.
We are preparing:
- A child’s first peaceful night’s sleep.
- A mother’s first cup of tea in a space that feels calm.
- A living room where laughter can slowly return.
Clean homes create mental clarity. They lower anxiety. They provide structure. They allow survivors to regain a sense of control over their environment – something that may have been taken from them for years.
That transformation is powerful.
And being part of it is a privilege.
Why This Collaboration Matters to Us
At VIP Cleaning, we clean homes, offices, and commercial spaces every day. But this partnership reminds us why our work truly matters.
Cleanliness isn’t just about presentation.
It’s about:
- Health
- Safety
- Dignity
- Emotional recovery
- New beginnings
Working with Furnishing Futures allows us to use our expertise for something bigger than business. It allows us to stand beside women and children at one of the most vulnerable moments of their lives and say:
You deserve better. And this is just the beginning.
